Corrugated Steel Pipes and Structures

By definition, spirally corrugated steel pipes and  corrugated steel sheet structures are considered flexible structures that absorb and transmit loads to the soil surrounding the structure. Therefore,  the strength of the structure depends not only on the parameters of the steel sheet, but also on the physical and mechanical properties of the soil. In literature, this type of structures is referred to as a soil-steel composite bridge, the span of which can reach 30 meters or more

Areas of Application

Corrugated steel structures are mainly used for vehicle roads and railway tunnels or bridges, crossings for pedestrians, cyclists, or animals, and water culverts. However, corrugated steel structures are also often used for strengthening and reconstruction of existing culverts, bridges, or tunnels, when the gap between the new and existing structure is filled with concrete. Corrugated steel pipes are also used in external non-pressurized water and sewage systems, drainage systems, and liquid storage systems, for example, for storing rainwater, and technical or firefighting water in tanks. They are also used for the installation of air ventilation ducts, protective cases, shelters, and hangars.

NovaCor Spirally Corrugated Steel Pipes

NovaCor pipes are used for various applications because they are light, strong, durable, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly. During manufacturing, the steel sheet is spirally corrugated, and the sheets are joined together with self-lock seams. The cross-sectional parameters of the corrugation allow to reduce the thickness of the sheet while maintaining a high bearing capacity of the pipe. Pipes are installed under roads or railways and can withstand high pressure of different types of loads.

NovaCor tanks are produced of galvanized and polymer-coated steel with the durability of 100 years or more. The manufacturing of pipes produces a particularly low impact on the environment, as the manufacturing processes do not require high costs and recycled steel is used.

NovaCor pipes are light, so their transportation and installation require minimum costs. Moreover, the operational costs of the pipes are low, which results in savings for the end user.

Pipes can be round or in the form of a compressed profile, which is why they are characterized by high water permeability. Their inner diameter varies from 300 mm to 4000 mm, and the length can be adapted according to the customer’s needs. Pipe segments are connected with clamps ensuring the integrity, strength and tightness of the pipe.
NovaCor corrugated steel pipes are produced, certified and CE marked according to the requirements of EN 1090 standard and Regulation (EU) No 305/2011. The production quality corresponds to the EXC3 class, and this is confirmed by the certificate of conformity of the factory production quality control issued by the notified body.

NovaCor plieniniai gofruoti vamzdžiai gaminami, sertifikuojami ir ženklinami CE ženklu pagal EN 1090 standarto ir ES Nr. 305/2011 reglamento reikalavimus. Gamybos kokybė atitinka EXC3 klasę ir tai patvirtina notifikuotos įstaigos išduotas gamyklos gamybos kokybės kontrolės atitikties sertifikatas.

MP200 Prefabricated Corrugated Steel Sheet Structure

For structures and bridges with a span of up to 12 meters, MP200 prefabricated corrugated steel sheet structures can be used. Corrugated sheets of these types of structures are rolled according to the geometry of a specific profile, and after connecting the rolled sheets with screws, the structure of the required cross-section is obtained. Most often, MP200 structures are used for vehicle road and railway tunnels or bridges, crossings for pedestrians, cyclists or small animals, and water culverts. The conducted research and implemented projects show that MP200 structures can also be used under high-speed rails.

MP200 structures can be with an open or closed profile. Structures with an open cross-section (such as arches) are installed on reinforced concrete or corrugated steel foundations, the major advantage of which is the natural base bottom. MP200 structures with a closed profile (round or compressed shape) are mostly used for water culverts where the level of abrasion is not high.

Sheets of MP200 structures are made of black metal. In order to ensure the intended design durability, the sheets can be hot-dip galvanized and additionally painted according to the customer’s needs.

Sheets of MP200 corrugated steel structures are produced, certified and CE marked according to requirements of EN 1090 standard and Regulation (EU) No 305/2011. The production quality corresponds to the EXC3 class, and this is confirmed by the certificate of conformity of the factory production quality control issued by the notified body.

NovaBridge Corrugated Steel Structures

If the span is over 12 meters, the prefabricated corrugated steel sheet structures with the corrugation of larger parameters are used. There are two types of NovaBridge structures (381 and 500) with corrugation parameters of 381x140 mm and 500x237 mm, respectively. The high parameters of the corrugation are suitable for a steel-soil bridge with an extremely large span where the width between the supports can reach 30 meters or more. The structures of this type are mostly used for vehicle road and railway tunnels or bridges, crossings for pedestrians, cyclists or animals, and water culverts.

As in MP200, the NovaBridge structure consists of corrugated rolled sheets and screws for joining the sheets. Most often, open profile, single or multiple beam arches are used, but also NovaBridge structures of closed profile, round or other cross-section can be used according to the customer’s needs.

The durability of NovaBridge structures is ensured by hot-dip galvanizing and painting the sheets, i.e. choosing a suitable anti-corrosion coating system, and taking into account the category of the environmental impact. In this way, a combined anti-corrosion coating system is produced, the durability of which in an extremely aggressive environment is even 80 years. The painting system and the type of coating are selected according to the customer’s needs.

Sheets of NovaBridge corrugated steel structures are produced, certified and CE marked according to the requirements of EN 1090 standard and Regulation (EU) No 305/2011. The production quality corresponds to the EXC3 class, and this is confirmed by the certificate of conformity of the factory production quality control issued by the notified body.
